Welcome to Stitch Studio, thanks for dropping by! I’m Kirsteen and I work from my home in Nottingham in the UK, where I make cute, animal soft sculptures. I meticulously hand cut and hand sew, 100% wool felt to create all of my pieces.
I love animals (I have to admit it’s mainly the cute, fluffy ones) and I adore using felt, firstly because of my fond memories of 'Fuzzy Felt' but also because of its strength, versatility and sculptural possibilities. Forming an animal out of felt and seeing it take shape is so exciting and each one I make is a whole new personality. I make everything as cute as I can and if I can get some embroidered detail in, I will! I love a bit of whimsy and all things kawaii-cute!
I studied Fine Art Sculpture at University, working mostly with fabric and embroidery, but my career took me down a different path. It wasn't until I became a stay at home mum that I found the time and inspiration to make and create things again. I take inspiration from my childhood memories, my memories of cartoon animals, toys I had and my hand-me-downs, they are so comfortingly nostalgic and familiar.
My work has a distinct style, rather than the uber realism of needlefelting it has a retro style, a wink to my childhood, and a baby animal cuteness. My things are loved by grown ups and children alike and are the perfect decor to adorn your space, but definitely not toys.
I began selling my creations on Etsy in 2017 but now you can commission me to make something just for you and find some exclusive pieces here, or find my ready to post cuties on my Folksy shop.
